I am sad to report that John Meredith passed away peacefully yesterday after a short illness. John will be known to many as the Treasurer of the RLS, a role he held for a remarkable 50 years until stepping down a few years ago. He was our longest serving member having joined the RLS in 1951 and was President twice during his membership of 69 years, all unique achievements.
John was a stalwart of the Society and one of those early enthusiasts with the foresight to record steam as it came to a commercial end. His interests were wide ranging including rail steam with his involvement with railway at Pickering.
John must have traveled 1,000’s of miles over those 50 years of attending committee meetings.
His funeral will be on May 19th but limited to close family members.
RIP John.
Andy Smith RLS Chairman.
